A computer RAM is a form of computer data storage. The advantage of this is the possibility to access data at random. There is access to return to any piece of data, irrespective of the location of its storage and its relation to other data. This memory module is associated to volatile types of memory. The latest development in Random Access Memory is in the use of its circuits. There are many RAM facilities apart from static RAM and dynamic RAM. It is the read only type. The entire pool of memory can be called RAM, irrespective of the access times and the subsystems.
The RAM can be replaced to suit the purposes quickly and easily. The system of swapping to an extent replaces the process of swapping. If the memory is volatile the data is lost when the computer is switched off unless it is non-volatile. Developments are in process to preserve the data even when it is powered down. Lower power consumption is more important than speed in large uses. To enable the microcomputers to use more RAM than what the CPU could directly address.
RAM disks are added for the increased functionality which is useful in high performance, low resource situations. This form of semiconductor storage is fundamental to the architecture of computers in general. Computer data storage provides one of the core functions, being information retention. The DRAM and SRAM are now being improved in the form of MRAM which enables switching on and switching off without any loss to the stored data. This is all about the RAM.
